Keep mobile phones on at Frankfurt if you are flying to New York: SIA

SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines has advised its passengers flying to New York via Frankfurt to ensure that all electronic devices, including mobile phones, are switched on during security screening at the German airport.

Failure to show functionality will result in the devices being confiscated, said the airline.

Customers are advised to keep their device charger in their hand luggage instead of check-in bags, SIA said in a notice posted on its website late Tuesday. Passengers may also be subjected to random enhanced security screening at Frankfurt Airport during their transit to New York, the airline said.

SIA's advisory comes in the wake of tighter restrictions imposed by the United States for arriving flights. No similar advice has so far been issued for SIA flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco.
