The Maldives tops romance poll

A new survey has found that the Maldives is the preferred destination for Singapore travellers who want to rediscover romance with their loved ones.

Singapore women also feel that Maldivian men are romantic, coming in third behind Frenchmen and Italians in the survey by online travel agency Zuji.

According to the survey, which polled 749 Singapore-based travellers, 42 per cent of respondents listed the island nation as the place where couples would most like to "renew their love". Japan came in second, with 23 per cent.

The survey also found that Singapore travellers are keen on travel romance, with two in three men yearning for one. Nearly a quarter who had a holiday romance met their lifelong partner and ended up marrying.

France was voted as the No. 1 romance destination among Singapore travellers. A trip to Europe has been labelled as the most romantic travel idea (58 per cent), followed by staying at a private beach villa (39 per cent).
