Mandatory self check-in for MAS economy class passengers soon

PETALING JAYA - Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has introduced a mandatory self check-in for all economy class passengers flying out of KLIA starting July 15.

Passengers can choose to either check in via MHweb check-in on www.malaysiaairlines.com, or MHmobile check in on flymas.mobi or use the self service check-in kiosks located at KLIA and Putrajaya ERL station for up to 48 hours prior to a flight.

They will only need their booking reference or the 13-digit E-ticket number to perform the self check-in.

MAS customer services director Datuk Salleh Ahmad Tabrani said that the self check-in system was a prelude to implementation of automated baggage drop and self tagging.

"Once fully implemented, the self service check-in kiosk will allow passengers to take control of their check-in and manage their time accordingly," he said in a statement yesterday.

With the new requirement, the conventional check-in counters for economy class passengers will be replaced with bag drop-in counters as the airline progressively introduces more technology-enabled options to passengers to take control of their own pre-embarkation experience.

The new system, Salleh said, will ease congestion at check-in counters.

Passengers with smart phones can also download the free MHmobile app for easy check-in while first class and business class passengers who wish to do self check-in may also do so through any of the options available.
