S'pore undergrads in Phuket accident: Body of drowned youth found

The body of the missing Singapore university exchange student has been found by the search and rescue team in Phuket.

According to PhuketWan.com, Gao Yang's body was found at 11.24am Phuket time, between Lone Island and He Island.

His body was transferred to the Vachira Phuket Hospital, the website reported, adding that the dead youth's parents are due to fly in from China while a professor will be arriving Saturday from Singapore.

Gao Yang and fellow university exchange student from China, Liu Shujian, both 21, were on holiday in Phuket with a pair of sisters.

The mishap happened at Promthep Cape, when a large wave swept Gao away. Liu tried to pull Gao back to shore but also fell into the sea.

Liu eventually managed to swim back to shore but sustained multiple abrasions, while Gao went missing.
