PETALING JAYA - Langkawi has been rated as the second most expensive island holiday destination in the region by popular travel website TripAdvisor.
In its TripIndex Island Sun 2013, the travel website selected 20 top island destinations in South-East Asia and compared the cost of a short overnight trip to these places.
The ratings were made based on the combined costs for two people on a one night stay in a four star hotel, a two course meal with coconut juice, beers, massages as well as the rental of bicycles and snorkelling equipment.
The cost of all these in Langkawi was RM1,783.32, second only to Singapore's Sentosa Island, which was the most expensive of the 20 destinations, with a cost of RM2,739.82.
The comparisons were made between Sept 16 and Oct 3.
The most affordable island was found to be Koh Phangan in Thailand with a cost of only RM749.03, while Koh Tao, another island in Thailand, came in second with RM794.52.
"The list shows that Thailand's Koh Phangan is the most affordable island destination, while Singapore's Sentosa Island is the most expensive," says TripAdvisor spokesman Jean Ow-Yeong.
