SERDANG, Malaysia - A 26-year-old bride-to-be was instantly killed when a car rammed into her as she was walking across Jalan Balakong-Seri Kembangan here with two friends.

Acting Serdang OCPD Supt Yong Soo Koon said the deceased, identified as Suraidah Banjar, was heading to the Mines Shopping Mall with the two women when they were hit by a car coming from Balakong at around 9.15am Saturday.

"Suraidah died on the spot while her two friends, aged 18 and 30 respectively, suffered from concussions.

"They were all brought to Hospital Serdang following the incident," he added.

Supt Yong said that upon inspection of the scene, the forensics team found no pedestrian crossing nearby the accident site.

"The road was in tip-top condition and the weather was good," he added.

The driver has been brought in for questioning at the Serdang police headquarters.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.

Meanwhile, scores of Suraidah's family members showed up at Hospital Serdang in the afternoon to claim her body.

Suraidah's aunt, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was scheduled to be married after Hari Raya.

"We have been trying to contact her fiancé after the accident, but to no avail.

"My niece had always been a joyful person. If this is her fate, we have to accept it," she added.

Suraidah was working as a clothes promoter at The Mines Shopping Mall.
