A red car was badly wrecked early on Wednesday morning after it rammed head-on into a tree on Hillview Avenue, off Upper Bukit Timah Road.
According to Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao, the impact of the crash sent the car bouncing off the tree, and came to a stop after it spun. The 23-year-old woman, who was trapped in the front passenger seat, died at the scene.
The 24-year-old male driver, who was also trapped in the car, was later freed by the Singapore Civil Defence Force. He suffered from leg fractures and spinal injuries.
Two other men, who were seated at the back of the car, were sent to the hospital together with the driver for treatment.
The other two survivors are believed to be 17 and 30 years old.
The incident happened at about 12.18am.
Wanbao reporters who arrived at the scene after rescue personnel said a police blue tent, indicating that there was a dead person, was already set up. The road also bore deep tyre marks that were headed in the direction of the tree.
Residents in the area told reporters that the car's passengers and driver were dressed casually and trendily. The female victim was wearing a tube top and shorts, paired with slippers, while the three men were in shirts and shorts.
One eyewitness, Mr Wang, 22, said that he saw the woman's condition was critical, as her body was wedged tightly in the car. The driver's condition equally shocked him too.
He said: "His body was half hanging out of the car door's broken window. I thought I could pull him out, but then I found out that both his legs had suffered serious fractures."
He added that the woman victim was slightly facing the driver and she had blood all over her face.
Mr Wong later helped another passenger, whose left leg was injured, out of the car. The other passenger managed to get down from the car by himself and walked a short distance, before he collapsed.
The parents of the victim who died were understood to have been told of the accident at 3am on the same morning. Her body was claimed from the mortuary later this morning.
