SINGAPORE - The new Giant Hyperfresh at Suntec CityMall is the first hypermarket to be awarded the prestigious GreenMark Gold Plus by BCA (Building and Construction Authority) for energy efficiency and green features.
With a focus on reducing energy consumption, several features have been incorporated within the store design.
These include 100 per cent LED lighting; energy-efficient electronically commuted fans and anti-sweat controls; and an eco foodwaste digester to process up to 500kg of waste per day.
More than 85 per cent of the refrigeration is enclosed, which creates significant energy savings. There is even a dedicated checkout lane for customers who bring their own shopping bags and trolley.
On the store's motivation to be green, Ms Ng Soo Leng,Giant's sales and marketing director, says: "Environmental sustainability has become a key ingredient to doing business responsibly and successfully. As one of the leading retailers in Singapore, we believe our actions have the potential to help ensure a better and greener planet for future generations to live in.
"Hence, this holistic approach of designing and building a 'green' hyper retail store will not just help Giant in terms of cost efficiency in energy savings, but also reassure our customers that we are committed to protecting and caring for our environment."
Besides being equipped with environmentally friendly features, the 4,880sqmGiant Hyperfresh features an exciting array of ready-to-eat food such as pizzas, salads, sandwiches, sushi, bakery and deli products to cater to the office and family crowd.
