FairPrice: Causeway tolls won't hit prices of goods from Malaysia

Supermarket chain FairPrice will not increase the prices of its products from Malaysia despite the higher Causeway tolls, which kick in today.

In a statement yesterday, it said that it continues to work closely with its suppliers to ensure its products "provide good value". FairPrice diversifies its sources by importing goods from various countries.

This ensures that circumstances such as weather conditions and socio-economic factors will not cause "supply and price shocks", it added.

Singapore is raising Causeway charges today, in a move to match Malaysia's August hike.

When added to the tolls levied by Malaysia, a two-way trip by car via the Causeway will cost around $13.
