KUALA LUMPUR - There are rows of stalls at the Kampung Baru area which offer different types of delicacies for food enthusiasts this Ramadan.
The stalls lining Jalan Raja Muda Musa offer a wide range of food, including traditional delicacies.
Trader Mohd Mazli Mandasin, 39, said the recipe for his gulai tempoyak ikan patin came from his uncle, who owns a restaurant in Shah Alam selling traditional Pahang food.
"I use fresh fish from a fish farm in the Termerloh river. They taste better than those reared in fish farms at lakes," he said yesterday.
Mazli said it was not surprising that many of his customers were from Pahang.
Another trader who relies on his family recipe is Shukri Husin.
Shukri, 24, was seen selling roti tempayan - a fluffier and thicker version of the much-loved roti canai (also known as prata in Singapore).
He explained that his roti tempayan was traditionally eaten with peanut-based sauce, which was similar to satay sauce.
"The recipe came from my late uncle. My uncle came from Pattaya in Thailand and the bread I sell is how the people in Pattaya enjoy the meal there," he added.
Trader Fariza Yeop Dris chose to add a twist to the well-known kebab dish by using deer meat instead of the usual beef, mutton or chicken.
She said the meat was brought from a deer farm in Sungai Siput.
"Customers love the taste of the deer meat and my kebabs are always sold out by the end of the day," she added.
University student Putri Nur Afiqah Nordin, 18, has frequented the bazaar three times since the beginning of this Ramadan.
"I like to try a different dish every time I come here," she added.
She was also attracted by the reasonable food prices that many traders in the bazaar offer.
Norazila Arifin, 42, who works at Wisma Perkeso near the bazaar, said she loved coming here because of the variety of food on offer.
"My favourite stall is the one selling Kelantan kuih," she added.
