Food Picks: Improved Osteria Mozza

Food Picks: Improved Osteria Mozza

I have not been to Osteria Mozza since the one time soon after it opened more than four years ago. It struck me then as unimpressive and expensive.

But a recent visit has made me see the restaurant at Marina Bay Sands in a different light. It is still expensive, especially the main courses, where the cheapest dish is a roasted wild grouper at $42. But this time, I find the food really good.

The Ricotta Gnocchi With Bloomsdale Spinach And Wild Mushrooms ($29 for starter, $62 for main) is something I'll go back for. The gnocchi are perfect round balls and not in the more common elongated shape. And they are soft, delicious and surprisingly light, especially when served with spinach and mushroom instead of the usual cream sauce.

The Pan Roasted Iberico Pork Chop With Fennel, Onion & Sambuca ($68 and $140) is good too. The meat is succulent and cooked perfectly. It is expensive, but worth the price.
