Freshly-plucked durians to lure China tourists

BEIJING - Tourists from China will get to savour durian fresh from the tree in a special theme package planned by a travel agency here during the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 event.

This attraction, including medical tourism and fishing expeditions, are on the cards with travel agencies in Beijing working with Tourism Malaysia to draw more Chinese visitors for the year-long festivity.

Beijing Grand Trip Inter­national Travel Service will be introducing the "Durian Tour" as one of their packages next year.

Durian lovers in China can get a fresh taste of the King of Fruits when they visit Malaysia.

Meanwhile, China Comfort Travel offers senior citizens medical check-ups at private hospitals in Kuala Lumpur.

Other trips include photography tours to Sabah and culinary visits to Penang and Malacca.

Grand Tour Golf Travel Service general manager Richard Song said Chinese golfers are drawn to some of the golf clubs in the Klang Valley because of their high quality courses.

Fish Tales Adventures (Beijing) general manager Kevin Sun said the company provides fishing trips to 11 states in Malaysia.

Kuala Rompin in Pahang tops the list of destinations with its abundance of sailfish between July and October.

From less than 200 people per year, the number of Chinese anglers to Malaysia increased tenfold since the company began to organise such trips in 2008.
