Italian food and wine debuts to rousing start

Gusto Italiano

An inaugural celebration of Italian food and wine in Singapore, the month-long Gusto Italiano festival in September will see leading Italian restaurants here team up with prized winemakers in Italy in a series of exclusive wine dinners and culinary workshops.

Events will range from region-specific wine pairing dinners with top chefs such as OTTO Ristorante's Michele Pavanello (Sep 5), Garibaldi's Roberto Galetti (Sep 12) and il Lido's Beppe de Vito (Sep 11) showcasing dishes and wines from their hometowns of Venice, Tuscany and Puglia respectively; to produce-focused meals such as a truffles and barolo dinner at Oso (Sept 10) and a caviar and franciacorta dinner at Il Cielo (Sept 19); to cooking demonstrations and pizza-making classes for children.

Gusto Italiano runs from Sept 1 to Oct 3 and is jointly organised by Sphere Exhibits, a subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings, and the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC). For more information visit

Gastronomic Tour of Italy at Buona Terra

For one evening per month starting in September, Italian fine-dining restaurant Buona Terra will take diners, through an ongoing series of six specially designed menus, on a wine and gastronomy tour of Italy - without the need to book air tickets out of Singapore.

For the inaugural session of the six-month promotion on Sep 10, Buona Terra head chef Denis Lucchi and sommelier Gabriele Rizzardi will pair classic dishes from the sun-drenched coasts of Sardinia and Sicily such as fregola pasta and Sicilian stuffed veal roll with typically Sardinian wines made with Vermentino and Cannonau varietals and exclusively imported Sicilian wines made with indigenous Perricone and Zibibbo grapes. Upcoming sessions will feature another seven regions of Italy, including Calabria and Puglia (Oct 8), Tuscany (Nov 12), Veneto (Jan 14, 2014), Piedmont (Feb 11) and Lombardy & Emilia Romagna (March 11).

Dinners are priced at $178++ per person, inclusive of wine pairings. For more information, contact Buona Terra, 29 Scotts Road Z6733-0209 or email:
