No more crazy queues for McDonald's Hello Kitty as sale goes online

Hello Kitty fans were greeted with much shorter queues and waiting times outside McDonald's outlets for the popular Hello Kitty toy, which went on sale at outlets across the island at 11am on Monday.

The disapperance of queues is not a sign that the craze is dying down however, it has merely moved online.

According to McDonald's Facebook page, the Hello Kitty Bubbly World characters are being sold to celebrate Hello Kitty's 40th Anniversary and consists of a Collectors' Set comprising 6 of the plush toys.

The set is priced at $80 online, and contains the 6 plush toys, six McDonald's Extra Value Meal vouchers valued at $5 each and a 40th anniversary certificate, which is exclusive for online customers.

Individual characters will be available at restaurants every Monday at 11am for 6 weeks, starting April 28.

The Straits Times reports that there were fewer than 10 people standing in line at the McDonald's outlets in Clementi Mall and Serangoon Avenue 3 at 11am, and around 20 people waiting at the Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 outlet.

This is in stark contrast to previous years, where there were snaking queues and fans had to wait overnight to get their hands on the doll.

McDonald's started taking pre-orders for the plush toys online this year. However, sales was so overwhelming that the chain stopped taking orders online just 80 minutes after sales started last Wednesday (Apr 23).

Stomp contributor SC had written an email to Stomp last Wednesday (Apr 23) about her unhappiness with the online system.

She mentioned that many members of the public were unable to order online. Some who paid online also did not get any confirmation email for their purchases.
