Carvers & Co

The carvery bistro was started by Ms Sarah Jane Lin, 28, owner of One Man Coffee in Upper Thomson Road, along with some of her friends.

The restaurant encourages communal eating, offering large roasts to be shared among diners.

Dishes include the Carvers ham sandwich ($16.90) and shoulder of lamb ($30), which is marinated in honey, mustard and buttermilk and roasted with a herb crust.

Pho Pho vietnamese cuisine

The two-storey restaurant in Telok Ayer Street features a bar and alfresco dining area on the second floor, and the restaurant on the ground floor serves authentic Vietnamese fare.

Items on the menu include Vietnamese rolls ($8), prawn-paste sugarcane skewers ($8) and pho or Vietnamese noodle soup, with toppings such as chicken ($10) or a beef combination ($14.90).

Charlyn's milk bar

The Italian deli and bar was opened by Palate Sensations Cooking School executive chef Charlotte D'Isidoro, 33, and owner Lynette Foo, 42.

They emphasise quality and authenticity of food as opposed to elegant decor and pretty plating.

Bread lovers can enjoy homemade focaccia, with toppings such as salami or grilled vegetables, ranging from $4 to $5 a slice.

For a more filling meal, diners can opt for roast chicken and potatoes or beef stew. Dishes change daily and cost $8 a plate.

Dulce & Sucre

A new extension of cupcake chain Twelve Cupcakes, Dulce & Sucre is owned by celebrity couple Daniel Ong, 40, and Jaime Teo, 37.

The cafe features such treats as whoopie pies ($3.50), with flavours such as cookies and cream, banana crumble and salted caramel banana. It also has tarts ($5.50) for sale, with flavours such as almond, strawberry, apple crumble and blueberry.

For cookie lovers, there are crunchies ($5.20 a pack) in chocolate chip macadamia, cranberry pistachio and cinnamon pecan combinations.
