Posh Nosh: Doctor Kracker Klassic 3 Seed Crispbreads

I have a long history with crispbreads and it has not always been a happy one.

It began when our family doctor suggested that my mother replace my breakfast toast with a certain brand of crispbreads, in the interest of healthy eating and keeping my weight down.

Those crackers, which still make me shudder every time I see them on a supermarket shelf, have zero taste unless you blanket them with butter, which defeats the purpose of eating them in the first place.

But times have changed and among the bewildering range of crispbreads now are some which taste fantastic.

I like these by American company Doctor Kracker.

They are studded with flax, sesame and sunflower seeds and the crackers have a toasty flavour to them that is very addictive.

Of course, you can load them with stuff - smoked salmon, creme fraiche and sprigs of dill; ham and some exotic chutney or other; or cheese.

But they are so good on their own that toppings are superfluous.
