Posh nosh: Nicely spiced ketchup

Speaking of adding chilli to things, this Hot & Spicy version of Heinz Ketchup fixes that pressing french fry dip dilemma: ketchup or chilli sauce?

It is both and tastes so good I might never go back to regular ketchup again.

The classic ketchup is mixed with Tabasco hot sauce, but the hot and spicy promise on the label has to be taken with copious amounts of another condiment, salt.

There is heat, of course, but it will not blow any heads off.

This is good news to me. The sauce is mildly hot, but the familiar vinegary tang of Tabasco is evident. It lightens up the ketchup, making it taste brighter, less sweet and entirely addictive.

Mustafa, which is my go-to place for unusual and hard-to-find food, also has Heinz ketchup with less sugar.

Good finds, all.

Heinz Hot & Spicy Ketchup, $4.20 for a 397g bottle, from Mustafa Centre, 145 Syed Alwi Road, open: 24 hours
