Posh Nosh: Rhubarb Jam

Posh Nosh: Rhubarb Jam

Pantler, a patisserie in Telok Ayer Street, has a selection of beautifully made jam, but the one I gravitate towards is Rhubarb (right).

The vegetable, when you can get it fresh, is awfully pricey here, so I look for alternatives.

This thick, luscious jam is made for spooning onto a warm scone and then topped with clotted cream. It is a tad sweeter than I would like, but I love that it is not set too hard and is packed full of rhubarb. Runny jams with little fruit are really not worth eating.

Aside from using it as a spread, why not use this jam as an accompaniment to cheese? Or serve it alongside seared foie gras?

One day, rhubarb will be plentiful and affordable in Singapore. Until then, I hope Pantler continues to offer this jam.

Rhubarb Jam, $12 a jar, from Pantler, 198 Telok Ayer Street, tel: 6221-6223, open: 8.30am to 7.30pm (Monday to Friday), 10.30am to 5.30pm (Saturday), closed on Sunday.
