Now some people like to take with them some comforts of home when they travel. A candle perhaps or a favourite brand of tea or chocolate.
Others travel with jars of chilli sauce because they miss its fiery kick in countries less used to spicy food.
A home-grown company, Wasamachi, has come up with XO sauce packed in sachets that are perfect for chilli fiends who travel.
Each sachet contains 10g of XO sauce. There is no worrying about whether the jar of sambal belacan or chilli sauce has broken or leaked onto clothes in the suitcase.
And it is discreet to use too. Only the waiters who spot the tell-tale streaks of sauce will know.
The sauce more than holds its own in the spicy stakes. However, I would like it to contain more of the "premium dried scallops and shrimps" the label promises.
Still, I like it well enough to pack some in my suitcase. There is no knowing when I might get a chilli craving.
