Teppei for lunch

Teppei for lunch

So, you’ve tried to get a reservation at Teppei, that vaguely grungy yet popular Japanese restaurant that everyone talks about, but to no avail. Bookings there open three months in advance.

For a taste of the food there, this is my solution: Go at lunch time and after the peak lunch hour, especially if you want to avoid queuing in the mid-day heat. That means between 1.30 and 2pm. You’re quite likely to get a seat then.

The lunch menu is limited but you can get a bara chirashi for just $14.95++, which comes with a bowl of miso soup and a glass of iced green tea. Now, that is a steal.

Not a fan of raw fish? There are various tempura sets including a Big Prawn tempura set with two large prawns and an assortment of vegetables, as well as onigiri with different fillings.
