166 athletes to represent Singapore at 8th ASEAN Para Games

SINGAPORE - The Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) has announced the final line-up of athletes representing Singapore at the 8th ASEAN Para Games from Dec 3 to 9, 2015.

This year's ASEAN Para Games contingent sees the largest in participation with 166 para athletes competing in 15 sports.

It will also be the first time the athletes will be competing in all sports offered in the games, up from five in the previous edition in Myanmar.

The Singapore contingent also comprises a significant number of debutant athletes, making up approximately 60 per cent of team.

"Our athletes have been training so hard for months. I've seen them in training and I can say that they are going all out for Singapore," said Dr Mark Hon, Vice Chairman of Singapore National Paralympic Council.

"The 8th ASEAN Para Games is a fitting finale for Singapore's golden jubilee celebrations and we believe that it will enhance the profile of disability sports and our athletes. We encourage Singaporeans to come out in force to support our athletes as One Team Singapore."

The 8th ASEAN Para Games will be held from Dec 3 to 9, 2015, with Singapore Sports Hub as the main venue for the Games. The Games is held in conjunction with Singapore's 50th anniversary and will host more than 2,000 athletes and officials from the region.

Adopting the theme of Celebrate the Extraordinary, the Games aims to promote friendship and solidarity among persons with disabilities in the ASEAN region through sport, to promote and develop sport for the differently-abled, and rehabilitate and integrate persons with disabilities into mainstream society through sport.
