2014 Singapore National Games kicks off

It has seen plenty of action since it opened mid-year, and the Singapore Sports Hub continues to be a big hit.

The second edition of the Singapore National Games (SNG) kicked off yesterday with the inaugural Stadium Run.

Flagged off by Sport Singapore chief executive Lim Teck Yin and representatives of various national sports associations, approximately 1,000 runners ran a total of five rounds around the new National Stadium to mark the official opening of the Games.

Participants ran on a route that included landmarks like the Singapore Indoor Stadium, OCBC Aquatic Centre and the OCBC Arena.

This year's edition of the Games will see close to 8,000 athletes compete across 12 sports. The competition will primarily take place at the Sports Hub and at various ActiveSG sports centres.

Yesterday saw the start of competition for basketball, badminton, bowling, dragon boat, hockey 5s, netball, sepak takraw, table tennis and volleyball.
