Badminton team upbeat about Glasgow Games

Part of the 105-strong Team Singapore contingent left for Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games early this morning (Singapore time).

The secretariat, led by chef de mission Low Teo Ping, the medical team, as well as the badminton team (left) flew off for the quadrennial Games that take place from next Wednesday to Aug 3.

National badminton coach Liu Qingdong said: "Our team have been training intensively with extra focus placed on sparring and analysing potential opponents' playing styles.

"Morale is high and we are confident that our shuttlers will perform and achieve results."

Top male shuttler Derek Wong, who is looking to reach the semi-finals, said: "We have been training extensively since we returned from Australia about three weeks ago. I feel that I'm in good condition now to get into the semi-finals for both the individual and team events."
