BeritaHarian.sg to hold National Futsal Championship 2015

As part of the SG50 birthday bash and to welcome the South East Asian Games (SEA Games) which be held in Singapore for the first time after 22 years, Berita Harian.sg - the digital edition of Malay daily newspaper Berita Harian - will be organising a futsal tournament which is open to everyone.

The event will be held over a weekend on 30 and 31 May 2015 at the Home United Youth Football Academy (HYFA) which is located at 8 Mattar Road. The facility is equipped with 10 futsal pitches and 2 eleven a-side pitches.

The Berita Harian.sg National Futsal Championship promotes, among other things, a healthy lifestyle, sporting culture and integration among communities of locals, new citizens and foreigners in Singapore.

Home United Football Club, Frenz United and Football Association of Singapore (FAS) are the official partners of this new sporting event. The official supporters are Muslim welfare organisation PPIS and a group of Berita Harian readers known as Allaudin and Friends.

The tournament will introduce six categories for youths and adults:

- Under 12

- Under 14

- Under 18

- Under 35

- Above 35

- Women

The Champion teams for the U-12, U-14 and U-18 categories will each win a trophy, medals and $700 in cash. The Champions for the U-35, A-35 and Women's categories will each win a trophy, medals and $1,000 in cash.

Berita Harian will work closely with Home United Football Club to ensure that the tournament will be managed and organised professionally.

This tournament is also a golden opportunity for talented players to be spotted by the FAS. The national sports association will be scouting for players to form a training squad to represent Singapore in the AFF Futsal Championship to be held in October this year.

This is the first time in 13 years that Singapore will be taking part in this prestigious tournament since 2002.

During the two-day event, there will be two exhibition matches where popular ex-Lions such as Fandi Ahmad, Nazri Nasir, Lim Tong Hai and Malek Awab will showcase their mastery of football, competing against two teams comprising under-privileged kids.

That's not all, these Singapore's football legends will also relive the golden era of our nation's football scene and share their memories at a meet-and-greet session with the fans.

A total of 64 teams will compete in each of these categories: U-12, U-14, U-18; while 32 teams will each compete in the U-35 and A-35 categories, and 8 teams will compete under the Women category, making a total of 264 teams competing in the tournament. All players will receive a goodie bag worth more than $100.
