Birthday boy Fazrul seals Warriors win

National striker Fazrul Nawaz celebrated his 30th birthday in style, scoring two goals to help Warriors FC beat Tampines Rovers 3-2 in an enthralling S.League clash at the Jalan Besar Stadium last night.

Tampines, the pre-season favourites for this year's title, took the lead with an Indra Sahdan tap-in after 21 minutes, but Fazrul pulled back a goal for defending champions Warriors on the stroke of half-time.

Rodrigo Tosi restored Tampines' lead six minutes after the break, but Nicolas Velez dragged Warriors level again on 72 minutes, before Fazrul powered home the winner eight minutes before the final whistle.

Tampines, meanwhile, rued their third defeat of the season which leaves them fifth, six points off the pace, although they also have an extra game to play.

In last night's other match, title hopefuls Home United also tripped up, after a last-minute Syafwan Syahlan goal gave Harimau Muda a 1-0 win at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca.
