Prompted by their continuous participation in the Business Times Corporate League, Boustead Singapore is making inroads into local golf.

With the 2015 season of the BT League starting on Monday, Boustead, a sponsor since 2010, is competing only for the second time.

After Wednesday's successful staging of the Boustead Projects Pro-Am Tournament at the Jurong Country Club, Boustead Projects Limited's managing director Thomas Chu said: "We see many benefits in golf, namely sound networking opportunities with other companies and corporate clients."

For a start, Boustead, a global infrastructure-related engineering services and geo-spatial technology group founded in 1828 and listed on the Singapore Exchange, wants to work with the Singapore Professional Golfers' Association (SPGA).

Chu, a 18-handicap index golfer, said: "The SPGA is doing a good job looking after local professional golfers.

It is said that Singapore professionals are getting fewer and fewer playing opportunities.

"With that in mind, we are sponsoring an event from July 7 to 9.

"We will also source for new sponsors to help the SPGA increase or at least maintain the eight to 10 tournaments it stages every year."

Singapore's No. 4-ranked pro Koh Dengshan, who helped out at Wednesday's pro-am event, said: "Many of our pros are struggling to find playing opportunities. So we grab every opprotunity to play in the 14-or-so Asian Development Tour events.

"Boustead's involvement is a great boost for us and the SPGA."
