Catch Fandi in action this weekend

If you did not sign up for this weekend's BeritaHarian.sg National Futsal Championship, fret not. You can still watch the matches for free and catch former national footballers such as Fandi Ahmad and Lim Tong Hai in action.

The tournament, as well as a mini carnival, takes place at the Home United Youth Football Academy at 8 Mattar Road between 8.30am and 8pm tomorrow, and between 8.30am and 6.20pm on Sunday.

The tournament is organised by the digital team of Malay daily Berita Harian, together with Frenz United Football Club and Home United Football Club, as part of the SG50 celebrations. The match categories include Under 12, Over 35 and Women.

Law and Foreign Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam will launch the tournament tomorrow morning, with an exhibition match between two teams representing the Inter-Religious Organisation.

The recently won Malaysia FA Cup trophy will also be exhibited for an hour from 11am.

In the evening, you can catch a friendly match between Members of Parliament - including Teo Ser Luck and Zaqy Mohamad - and Berita Harian journalists.

Throughout the day, there will be semi-final matches for the championship. The semis for the Under 12 and Women's categories will be held on Sunday.

The teams will square off for the finals in each category on Sunday, with Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Masagos Zulkifli presenting prizes in the evening.

At 4.20pm on Sunday, look out for an exhibition match between former national footballers - including Fandi, Malek Awab, Lim and Yahya Madon - against kids and teens under 14 from the Singapore Muslim Women's Association.

Stay on after the match to get an autograph or a photo with your favourite star.

There's also a chapteh competition over the two days. Keep a weighted shuttlecock in the air for the longest time and you could walk away with the top prize, a PlayStation 4 game console. The runner-up will get a PlayStation Vita handheld console.

You can also visit the 25 booths selling food and merchandise during the event's mini carnival, and delight the kids with free balloon sculptures and playtime on a bouncy castle.
