Double joy for a Reds fan

It could not have been a sweeter night for Chong Zhi Kang.

On top of witnessing his beloved Liverpool record a 1-0 win over bitter rivals Manchester United at his first EPL Mania event organised by The New Paper, the 27-year-old was also the biggest winner of the night at the St James Wine Bar & Bistro.

Chong picked up two L'oreal Men Expert hampers for correctly predicting 1-0 scorelines at half-time and full-time.

And as no one correctly guessed the time of Daniel Sturridge's fourth-minute winner, the IT professional and Lee Lih Ming both picked up an extra $100 for predicting the game would end 1-0.

After collecting his second prize of the day, a grinning Chong said: "I didn't expect to get three prizes in one day."

"I've watched Liverpool's first two matches and they've been playing very well in the first half before playing defensively throughout the rest of the game.

"So I believed that, with Manchester United at Anfield, 1-0 would be the score again.

Hosting its first EPL Mania event, the Wine Bar was a sea of red as passionate fans of both teams packed its premises.

Even with the shift in event venue from the former TNP Sports Bar, EPL Mania veteran DJ Kumar was happy with the experience.

The 29-year-old Liverpool fan said: "Our ambition is to finish in the top four so, even though we're first in the table now, I hope we can maintain this pace and take each game as it comes.

"I feel the environment here is quite passionate and the crowd is great. We will most likely be heading here again for the next big game."

While the match was David Moyes' first competitive defeat in charge as United manager, Red Devils fan Saravanan Krishna urged his fellow supporters not to hit the panic button.

However, he was adamant that the Scot had to make a signing on the last day of the transfer window, which shuts on Monday.

The 27-year-old engineer said: "We made a mistake by letting in an early goal. But I felt in the second half, Man United dominated the game.

"The thing we were lacking was a cutting edge and while I feel the team are good, we have to reinforce if we are to defend the title this season.

"We were lacking some creativity in the midfield and Moyes has to get some players in. We have only 24 hours left."
