It is no secret that the LionsXII are set to break up, with a host of key players poised to follow coach V Sundramoorthy out of Jalan Besar Stadium.

But there could be some cheer around the corner for the reigning Malaysian Super League (MSL) champions.

The LionsXII class of 2014 could feature a central defensive partnership that will eventually anchor the backline for the national team.

Baihakki Khaizan, 29, and Safuwan Baharudin (inset), 22, were the best central defensive pair in the MSL over the last couple of years.

While Bai is set to hop across the Causeway and join Malaysian secondtier side Johor FA, Safuwan is seriously reconsidering a proposed move out of the LionsXII.

With Courts Young Lions defender Afiq Yunos (right) the first player to decide that he will join the 2014 LionsXII, next year's outfit could see the reunion of two former teammates.
