MYANMAR - The spotlight shone yet again on Singaporeans Zhang Guirong and Du Xianhui on the field events as both clinched the Gold and Silver medals at the Women's Shot Put Finals held this morning.
Zhang achieved a 14.99m on her 5th attempt out of six which put her comfortably in the lead against strong competitors such as fellow teammate Du as well as Sawitri Thongchao from Thailand.
The 32-year-old Du looked relieved after managing a 14.92m, also on her 5th attempt out of six.
Sawitri finished 3rd with a putting distance of 14.82m. She was previously 4th in the 26th Southeast Asian Games held in Palembang, Indonesia in 2011.
In the Men's Discus Throwing event, nine-time SEA Games Gold medallist James Wong faced tough competition and finished 5th, despite achieving his season best distance of 50.82m.
"It's not easy, every centimetre takes a lot of hard work to push. At least I got a season best today, 50.82m. I tried, I screamed, and I am satisfied I came up with my season best in my career," mentioned James.
"It's a good fight. I fought very hard out there," James said with conviction.
