SINGAPORE- Singapore has been selected to host the first leg of the eighth Extreme Sailing Series (ESS) next February.

The Republic made its competitive debut as the second stop in April as part of a three-year deal inked by Aberdeen Asset Management and race organisers OC Sport.

Next year, The Promontory@Marina Bay will kick-start an eight-race tour featuring the speedy Extreme 40 catamarans from Feb 20 to 23.

OC Sport executive chairman Mark Turner said: "With such a stunning stadium setting, Singapore is a fitting venue to open the 2014 Series.

"Racing takes place right in the centre of the iconic city, and in partnership locally with Aberdeen Asset Management, we are sure 2014 will be even better than the 2013 act."

While this year's race in Singapore was a success, the change in dates should allow for better wind conditions to provide a more exciting race to match the iconic backdrop at Marina Bay.
