Golf: Quek fires 65 to take lead in Shanghai

Singapore's Quincy Quek made a great start on his return to the PGA China Tour firing a seven-under 65 to lead the Lanhai Open by one stroke on day one in Shanghai yesterday.

The 27-year-old played solid golf all day under ideal conditions. Playing the back nine at the Links Course first, Quek (right) made consecutive birdies on holes 12 and 13, then on 15 and 16. After the turn he bagged birdies on holes 2, 3 and 4.

He dropped a shot on the par-four sixth but concluded his round with a birdie-par finish. Australia's Ray Beaufils is a shot back after a bogey-free round, while a quartet of players are two strokes back.
