The invincibility of the world's most feared female prizefighter was shattered on Sunday when American Holly Holm KO-ed former judo champion Ronda Rousey in a stunning victory for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight title.

It wasn't too long ago in August when Rousey cemented her 'killer aura' in the mixed martial arts scene with a 34-second knockout of Brazilian Bethe Correia, drawing comparisons to the legendary Mike Tyson.

Her meteoric rise in the ring was matched by her ambitions for global superstardom with the release of her bestselling autobiography 'My Fight/YourFight'.

Besides signing a contract with Paramount Pictures for a possible movie adaption, the 28-year-old also had cameo appearances in Hollywood movies like "The Expendables 3," "Furious 7" and the comedy film "Entourage."

As Rousey was busy growing her fanbase, she had her fair share of detractors too.

When her larger-than-life persona crashed back to earth with a concussion and a cut lip on that fateful Sunday morning, the internet trolls were in overdrive churning out memes pouring scorn at the Olympics judo bronze medallist.

Even celebrities weighed in on the big fight. Lady Gaga posted a photo of Rousey getting punched by Holm on her Instagram account with the caption: "That's what you get for not touching gloves!" referring to the hostile encounter between Rousey and Holm during their weigh in.

Rousey, who recently, declared her support for Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, raised the ire of Donald Trump, who tweeted: "Glad to see that @RondaRousey lost her championship fight last night. Was soundly beaten - not a nice person!"

But that's not the end of Rousey. At 28, she still has a lot of fight in her. On Monday, she posted an telling message on her Instagram: "As mentioned before, I'm going to take a little bit of time, but I'll be back."
