Lettter: Let's stop using FAS as a punching bag

I strongly disagree with Mr Leonard Thomas who argued that the FAS should keep our talented players and coaches within Singapore ("Don't lose our talent to Malaysia", TNP, Oct 8).

The fact that our players and coaches are targeted by clubs in Malaysia and Thailand is a testament to their capabilities and development, which is in turn a reflection of the hard work put in by the FAS.

It would do no justice to Singapore football if we adopt a mentality that our coaches and players should remain in Singapore just because of national pride or due to the rivalry between Singapore and Malaysia.

We need to encourage our players and coaches to play overseas as it will expand their horizon and knowledge, which will in turn raise our standards.
