Malaysia badminton association confirms its athlete failed dope test

PETALING JAYA - The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed that it was one of its shuttlers who failed a dope test at a major tournament this year but stopped short of naming the athlete.

The announcement was made by deputy president Datuk Norza Zakaria at an emergency council meeting on Sunday to discuss the issue.

It was the first official announcement made by officials from the association regarding the doping issue.

The athlete implicated has requested for the "B" sample to be tested.

The tests are expected to be carried out on Nov 4 or Nov 5 at a lab in Oslo, Norway.

Norza, however, declined to reveal any names until the "B" sample results are out.

It has been widely reported that the shuttler in question is Datuk Lee Chong Wei, who won bronze at the recent Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
