ATM FA: 0
Differing opinions were formed by the opposing managers, after the LionsXII's win over ATM in the first leg of the Malaysia Cup quarter-final last night.
Visiting coach B. Sathianathan's believes that the proverbial glass is half-full, as his side prevented a thrashing in front of the 7,464 fans at Jalan Besar Stadium.
"I'm happy. This 1-0 loss is still a bonus," the 55-year-old said after the result, which sets up an intriguing return leg on Friday.
His LionsXII counterpart V. Sundramoorthy, however, will be feeling that the glass is half empty, after poor finishing left his men with a tricky mission in Selayang.
"It will be tough," was his assessment of the away game.
"I would have loved to get a two-goal cushion at home but we didn't finish our chances off."
Reserve right-back Madhu Mohana grabbed the winner in the 39th minute, when he was left unmarked inside the box and forced a downward header home via Shafiq Ghani's corner.
But the mood was set as early as the fourth minute when the 22-year-old missed from a similar situation.
After taking the lead, however, it was miss after miss as striker Shafiq squandered three glorious chances.
He sliced just over the bar twice, and shot tamely into the side netting in the 64th minute when captain Shahril Ishak's through ball had sent him galloping clear.
