Malaysian team congratulated for giving their best

PETALING JAYA- Politicians from both sides of the divide took to Twitter immediately after the game, congratulating the Malaysian team on a battle well fought.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he was proud of the Malaysian team, adding that Malay­sia was still united whether in victory or defeat.

"We will try again and congratulations to Japan," he said.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin tweeted "We lost. But I am proud of the Malaysian team. They fought all the way.

"Fought for the Jalur Gemilang on their shirts. For us," he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urged the team not to give up hope.

"Although we did not win, Malaysians are still proud of the fighting spirit shown by the Malaysian team tonight.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai congratulated the Japanese team and said he was proud of the Malaysian team.

"You all fought hard!" he said.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hisham­muddin Hussein mentioned Malaysian team member Liew Daren in his tweet.

"Daren, u made us all proud but it was just not enough tonight.

"For a brief moment we were one for all and all for one. If only..." he said.

Even former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad tweeted that Malaysia had not failed, but merely has not managed to win the Thomas Cup for the second time.

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan tweeted "It was a respectable defeat.

"No matter what, our team is the best.

"Tonight was an exceptional night. Thank you Malaysia," he said.

DAP MP Ong Kian Ming said "Well done to our Thomas Cup team for putting up an unbelievable fight!" while Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli tweeted "Good game, good sportsmanship.

"Congratulation to Malaysian team from the players to the coaches and officers".

Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang, in his tweet, asked Khairy to console the team over the defeat.

"Khairy, please help console our guys, in particular Liew Daren. They did their best in the Finals. Heart breaking," he said.

Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan tweeted: "Heroic performance Malaysia - Proud to be a Malaysian".
