MyPoint: Stadium's beach on a pitch an embarassment

I urge the Sports Hub management to halt all operations on the National Stadium pitch and get it sorted out as soon as possible, before it embarrasses Singapore further ("Sports Hub field far from pitch-perfect"; last Tuesday).

The issue is not whether "teething problems" are to be expected as operations are ramped up, but what has been done to address the challenges.

Changi Airport, a bigger and more complex facility than the Sports Hub, was launched without any major hiccups back in 1981.

It is unacceptable that a stadium whose completion has been delayed repeatedly could have ended up with a beach on a pitch.

The Singapore Sports Hub Consortium's desire to extract a quick return on investments should never be done at the expense of this country's reputation.
