NETBALL SUPER LEAGUE FINAL
MISSION MANNAS 54
BLAZE DOLPHINS 47
It looked almost over at half-time, but the Mission Mannas rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat the Blaze Dolphins 54-47 in the Cheers Netball Super League (NSL) final at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall yesterday.
The Mannas had lost two and drawn one of three previous encounters against the Dolphins this season and were underdogs heading into the final.
They lost 48-43 in their first league meeting and drew the second 41-41, before falling 48-43 again in last weekend's semi-final.
In the six-team NSL, teams play each other twice in a 10-game season.
The top four then enter the play-offs, with the top two taking on each other - the winners in this match would make the final - and the third- and fourth-placed teams meeting in another clash. The winners of the second tie would then play the losers of the first for the right to play in the final.
The Mannas, who finished top of the regular NSL season, lost to the second-placed Dolphins in the play-offs but beat the Sneakers Stingrays in the preliminary final.
Considering the previous results between the two teams, yesterday's final looked done and dusted when the Dolphins led 31-21 at half-time.
But the Mannas dug deep.
