It was the Lisa and Leslie Show which opened the entertainment on a hot and humid afternoon at Kranji on Sunday.
Lisa Allpress, the only woman jockey in Singapore's riding ranks, picked up her third Kranji winner when she rode a copybook race to land GERMAN ROULETTE a comfortable winner over the 1,400m on the turf.
She had, on Sept 13, tasted her first success of this stint when she piloted Sir Fleetwood to win a Class 4 event on the Polytrack. Win No. 2 was on Big Money, also on the opening event the previous Sunday.
Ease her mount Trained by Leslie Khoo, German Roulette jumped cleanly for Allpress, who elected to ease her mount into fourth spot rather than engage in the hot pace up front.
She obviously knew that she had a talented horse beneath her because she guarded her spot on the rails and turned for home in third spot.
By then, Macau Roulette and hot favourite Zaz Star Destroyer, the mount of Joao Moreira, held sway in front and looked to be travelling well.
But, with 200m to go, the 38-year-old New Zealander went into overdrive on German Roulette. Shortening reins and urging her mount along, she positioned German Roulette to the outside of Macau Roulette.
By then, they had dropped off the rest. Moreira had enough on Zac Star Destroyer and Vanquish came into the picture.
But German Roulette proved to be just too good and, in the process, opened his Kranji account in style.
