So, you were one of those whose jaws dropped when HUKA FALLS was swamped by Davide last time out. Well, chin up. Give him another chance when he next faces the sarter on Friday.
On the strength of his workout yesterday morning, he does look like he's ready to help you recoup some losses.
Indeed, trackwatchers were unanimous in picking their star of the morning. It had to be Huka Falls.
Taken out by his regular rider Joao Moreira, he had the talented DANIEL for company when he ran the 600m in 36.2sec. That was after the pair had gone one round at a steady canter.
Huka Falls was seen as an extra good thing when he returned to the track on Aug 9. That was after being off the scene for almost five months.
His work coming into that race had been top notch and punters sent him out as the $9 favourite. No one told us that Davide would be in such a galloping mood. But, like they say, nothing's for certain and Davide came with a big run over the concluding stages to beat Huka Falls by ¾ length.
Anyway, that was then. Now is now and Huka Falls will be the one they will all have to gun down over the sharp 1,100m on Friday.
DANIEL, who went out with his stablemate, meets some tough cookies in Friday's Novice event over the 1,100m. There's Dr Octopus, Jeram Clipper and stablemate Happy Forever, but I reckon he won well enough on debut to suggest that a race-to-race double isn't too far-fetched an idea.
Indeed, Huka Falls and Daniel could be two legs of a pretty hot Roll Bet on Friday. What's the third leg? Well, you go figure that one out.
