Review timings of disqualified runners

The Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore is the biggest marathon in our country, so I am surprised at how a "technical issue" led to the disqualification of a substantial number of runners ("'Technical issue' to blame"; Wednesday).

Several runners who completed the race did not have their timings properly recorded. The organiser disqualified them despite stating on its Facebook page that the time chip issue had been resolved.

My fiance spent almost eight hours running the marathon, only to be disqualified because the organiser did not put in the effort to resolve the issue.

Why should the disqualified runners pay an additional $50 fee to lodge appeals, when the fault lies with the organiser?

I hope it will review the timings of those who got disqualified because of the technical glitch.

As a supporter of the marathon for many years, I expect more of a world-class race.
