HOUGANG UNITED 2 (Diego Gama 28, Geison Moura 59)
BALESTIER KHALSA 1 (Goran Ljubojevic 35-pen)
Even the return of their sorely missed playmaker could not help Balestier Khalsa secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
After an absence of eight weeks, Park Kang Jin finally returned to the Tigers' fold as a substitute, but he could do little to prevent his side from losing 2-1 to Hougang United at Jalan Besar Stadium last night.
Despite suffering their fifth loss of the season, Balestier coach Marko Kraljevic is optimistic about his side's chances of finishing in the top six.
He said: "We had chances but we just couldn't score. But it was promising to see Zulkiffli (Hassim) having a good game. All he needed was to score.
"Of course, the loss is disappointing, but this is football. Park had only a full week of training after his injury and I'm sure once he gains fitness, we can win again. We are still aiming for a top-six finish. We can do it."
It was the samba combination of Diego Gama and Geison Moura which sealed all three points for the Cheetahs last night.
Hougang were the slower of the two sides to get going, and they can count themselves fortunate to go ahead after 28 minutes.
Gama's corner curled right into Zaiful Nizam's goal as the Tigers' custodian misjudged the ball's flight.
