GREAT EASTERN-YEO'S S-LEAGUE
GEYLANG 1 (Jalal 41)
COURTS YOUNG LIONS 0
With that one pass he lit up what was a dour match, providing the spark for Geylang International to emerge winners of their Great Eastern-Yeo's S-League encounter with the Courts Young Lions at the Bedok Stadium last night.
Eagles midfielder Yasir Hanapi was the hero for the hosts, after he carved out the opening for teammate Jalal to slot past goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari for the 1-0 victory.
S-League CEO Lim Chin was in the stands and acknowledged Yasir's contribution, when he said: "What a pass; fantastic."
The praise was well-deserved.
With four minutes to go to half-time, Yasir used the outside of his right foot to curl a pass right through the heart of the Young Lions defence into the path of Jalal, who didn't have to break stride to net the winner.
It was Geylang's second win on the trot.
It was also the most exciting moment of the match, although two wayward clearances from Geylang defender Delwinder Singh had the fans in the stands in near panic when both came close to striking a little girl running around the grandstand.
Thankfully, both clearances just missed the child, ensuring the Geylang camp could enjoy the three points.
