SEA Games: No small operation

For a large-scale event like the 28th South-east Asia (SEA) Games, which will be held here from June 5 to 16, operational requirements are crucial towards the success on the field, track, pool and boxing ring, among the other sports venues.

The Singapore South-east Asia Games Organising Committee (Singsoc) yesterday officially opened the Singsoc Logistics Centre (SLC), which will be the key warehousing and logistics support venue for the Games.

Said Singsoc executive committee chairman Lim Teck Yin: "The SLC is the backbone of the Games' operations. All in all, the centre will store, manage and move 1,642 tonnes of sports equipment, fittings and general supplies."

The SLC is located on the premises of Singapore's largest home-grown logistics provider, CWT Limited.

CWT will provide full supply chain management, supporting logistical services like manpower and transportation, handling athletes' sports equipment and luggage upon arrival and departure, and logistics resources and operations support at competition and training venues.

Some of the items being stored at the SLC include Olympic bicycle racks and table tennis tables.

All this in addition to a monthly warehouse space of 17,000 square feet for storage space over a 12-month period.

"With CWT's expertise and track record in logistics, we are assured of efficient and secured supply chain management. This partnership is fundamental to delivering a successful Games," said Lim.
