Singapore national champtions MNA take 3rd place in Tiger street football tournament

SINGAPORE - Thai Son Bac are the newly crowned champions of the Tiger Street Football Singapore 2013 International Tournament after defeating Equal FC, the champions of Malaysia with a scoreline of 4-2. Played at Event Plaza@Marina Bay Sands, today's competition featured international and local teams vying for the grand prize of US$5,000.

Local teams Dorset Boyz, Teban Thunder F.C, former champions, Touch N Go and national champions, MNA were given the opportunity to compete against Street Eagles from Germany, Footwork.IT from Italy, Equal FC from Malaysia and Thai Son Bac from Vietnam.

MNA, proved their worth as the current champions of Tiger Street Football Singapore 2013 by coming in third in the International Tournament, beating Street Eagles (Germany) with a convincing 4-1 scoreline.

Ariff Hamdan, 23, captain of MNA, commented, "Competing against international teams here in Marina Bay Sands is like defending our country - we battled our hearts out and played for local pride. As a team that is playing in this tournament for the first time, I think this is a commendable effort." Hamdan continued, "It was a privilege to play alongside the international teams in this tournament and the experience gained will keep us in good stead as we prepare for the Grand Finals in Vietnam."

Fabio Cannavaro, the tournament ambassador who was on hand to present the prizes to the top three teams, said "Over the last three days, I have been very impressed by what I have seen. The level of play and skills displayed by the Singapore teams has been of very high standards and is comparable to the best out there. Many of the participants possess the quality and potential to take their game to the next level."

"I hope Tiger Street Football will continue to attract more local players and provide them the international experience which is valuable and hard to come by. The strong turnout and enthusiasm from the fans created a lively atmosphere for the tournament and shows the nation's passion for the game. I would definitely like to return to Singapore in the future to see my supporters", added Cannavaro.

Following the Tiger Street Football event in Singapore, the Grand Finals will be held in Vietnam on 9 Nov 9, 2013. There, top team from each local leg will be vying for the title of Grand Champions of Tiger Street Football 2013 and the top prize of USD30,000.
