A Singaporean mixed martial arts (MMA) rookie caused a major upset when he defeated a Malaysian flyweight champion at a fight last Saturday(Nov 30), reported Stomp contributor Harvey.
Despite being a rookie with only one fight under his belt, Kumaraysan 'The Swift' Perumal chose to take on Kenny Yap, a reigning flyweight champion who had chalked up eight wins and just one prior to their bout.
However, Kumaraysan showed why he was nicknamed 'The Swift' as he went at Kenny and rained lightning-quick blows on him, eventually winning the tie in the first round via a technical knock-out in slightly over three minutes.
In his report, Stomp contributor Harvey wrote:
"Singapore's very own Kumaraysan 'The Swift' Perumal had a track record that read '1 win, 0 losses' but he still chose to take on a Malaysian flyweight champion, Kenny Yap, who has a track record of eight wins and 1 loss.
"Word has it that no one dared to challenge Yap until Kumaraysan, and he put up an amazing fight to defeat him.
"Think this guy can do Singapore proud in bigger fights."
