The Singapore netball team will count on experience next month when they defend their Asian title.
Yesterday, Netball Singapore unveiled the 12 players selected for the Mission Foods Asian Netball Championship, to be held at the OCBC Arena at the Singapore Sports Hub from Sept 7 to 14.
Leading the team will be captain Lin Qingyi, while Chen Huifen and Nurul Baizura will take on the supporting roles of vice-captains.
The trio have a total 191 caps between them and were part of the team that won the tournament in 2012.
Another senior, Premila Hirubalan (below), Singapore's most capped player with 85, also part of the 2012 side that won the title in Colombo, Sri Lanka, will be in the mix as well.
The 31-year-old has been in fine form, winning the Most Valuable Player (Defender)Award for the Cheers Netball Super League this year.
Said Lin: "It's a great honour to be leading the team for the Mission Foods Asian Netball Championship.
"We have just returned from our New Zealand and Fiji training tour, and we are now in the final phase of preparation for the tournament.
"The girls are raring to go, and we hope all our fans come out and give us their support."
Singapore open their campaign against Japan on Sept 7, before taking on Vietnam, Hong Kong and India in the group stages.
A top-two finish is needed to secure a place at the World Cup next year in Sydney, Australia.
Tickets for the seven-day tournament are on sale from Netball Singapore with special offers for concessions and school parties available. For more information, go to www.netballsingapore.org.
