Singapore's shuttlers enjoyed good outings in various parts of the world on Sunday.
In Almere, the Netherlands, the mixed doubles pair of Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Vanessa Neo upset top seeds Muhammad Rijal and Debby Susanto - who are ranked ninth in the world - to bag the mixed doubles title at the Dutch Open.
The second-seeded Singaporeans, who will pair up again at December's SEA Games in Myanmar, won 21-19, 25-23.
Singapore Badminton Association senior technical manager Chua Yong Joo said of the world No. 14th-ranked pairing: "This is the first time Danny and Vanessa have beaten a top-10 duo. It's a great morale boost because they will likely meet the same opponents at the SEA Games."
Unfortunately, compatriot Gu Juan, 23, missed out on her first major title, losing to Thai Busanan Ongbumrungpan in the women's singles final.
The Singaporean third seed fell 12-21, 12-21 to her opponent, who was seeded second.
Meanwhile, Yeo Jia Min lived up to her top seeding by becoming the first Singaporean to win the girls' Under-15 title at the Badminton Asia Youth Championships.
The Singapore Sports School student beat South Korean Jang Na Ra 21-17, 20-22, 21-16 on Sunday's final in Kudu, Indonesia.
