Table tennis: Feng up for top gong

It is her first time being nominated for table tennis' top annual individual honour.

But Singapore paddler Feng Tianwei faces an uphill battle to win the 2014 International Table Tennis Federation's (ITTF) Female Table Tennis Star award presented by Nittaku.

The 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist is up against the top two players in the world from China - world No. 1 Ding Ning, the reigning 2014 ITTF Women's World Cup winner and world No. 2 Liu Shiwen, the reigning Asian Games champion.

Rounding up the four-women shortlist announced yesterday was Kasumi Ishikawa, who was part of the Japanese outfit that finished second behind China at the 2014 World Team Table Tennis Championships.

The ITTF Star Awards, now in their second year, will be held at the Armani Hotel at Dubai's iconic Burj Khalifa.

World No. 4 Feng won three singles titles on the ITTF tour this year - at the Japan Open, Ozcare Australia Open and Philippines Open.
